When camping, it is best to observe a leave-no-trace philosophy. This extends to all actions: sleeping, eating, and other bodily processes, as well as fun.

Eating is a large part of our lives, and we enjoy delicious camp food while enjoying the wilderness. Isn’t it a pain keeping track of those plastic pieces, whether plates, cups, or utensils? Well, the company Full Windsor believes it has a solution for the pesky plastic: Magware – Magnetic Flatware.

Why Ditch The Plastic

Magware have been designed to address a major problem facing our planet. Humans throw away billions of single-use plastic utensils every year, and many of them end up in our oceans and waterways. Plastics never fully break down but rather degrade into small pieces that resemble food scraps to fish and other sea animals. The Ocean Conservancy lists plastic utensils as among the items “most deadly” to sea turtles, sea birds, and other ocean creatures due to their size and to the ease they enter our waterways.

Full Windsor thinks the Bring Your Own (BYO) Cutlery movement could help reduce the number of disposable utensils that get thrown away every year. The same way as carrying drink bottles has started to become ubiquitous to people’s everyday lives, Full Windsor hopes to see non-disposable utensils being used in the same way.

About Magware – Magnetic Flatware

Magware utensils are a simple solution to help in this mission, by making them as organized and easy to carry as possible. Magware is made from 7075-T6 Aluminum. The aluminum will come from recycled scrap. It has a simple click-apart magnetic design with a hard-anodized finish and is easy to clean (as well as dishwasher safe). A single set (fork, spoon, and knife) weighs only 1.6 ounces, compared to 5.3 ounces of a stainless steel cutlery set. This makes it very easy to carry at all times, whether in a pocket, a purse or bag. The colors are inspired by nature: tropical turquoise, fire orange, charcoal black, forest green, and deep sea blue.

For the pouches, Full Windsor uses Hypalon, as it is extremely durable, waterproof, easy to clean and stain-resistant. Hypalon is so tough it is the material that they make inflatable boats from. High strength velcro for the closing mechanism is used for the single set, and the full set pouch also has a thick elastic strap attached to give it an even firmer close.

Price and Shipping Details

The Full Windsor Magware launched on Kickstarter on November 13 with two early bird specials: $32 for a single set (3 pieces plus pouch) and $109 for a full set (15 pieces plus pouch). Kickstarter backers can also add on magnetic titanium chopsticks for $24. This early bird special is good for a limited time, and sets are going fast. After the early bird specials, prices increase to $42 for a single set and $139 for a full set.

The overall Kickstarter campaign is set to end on December 19. Shipping is scheduled to occur in April 2020.
